Sometimes excercise isn't good...

I found this video on another NS members blog and thought it was super funny! I LMAO - hope you do too!

Wednesday Weigh-in

I was almost certain that for this week, week 14, I wasn't going to see a big number on the scale and I thought that this would be the week that I had no loss or maybe even gain a few ounces?! My exercise program (walking) hasn't really been 100%, due to the sub-zero temperatures and when I do go for my walks I have been cutting them short. I also attended a banquet on the weekend and thought I might have over did it and had too much "bad" food but it looks like even with not staying 100% on the plan I was still able to loose -1.6lbs !! I can handle that!! AND it was just enough to get me my 40lb bear!! YEAH!! Now I can focus on getting my 50lb bear! I can't even imagine how I will feel after loosing 50lbs! I can definitely see and feel a difference in me now and I should probably post some pics so that everyone else can see the difference too. Maybe this weekend I will try and get our scanner to work?! I booked tomorrow off, I need to take my mom to the "doctors" ;) It will be nice to have a day off, sleep in for a little bit and then go pick my mom up. Tomorrow night I am also going to be skipping out on bowling, there is a open house that my MIL wants to go to and I volunteered to take her. It's about an hour drive from our house and on these icy roads could be interesting. The weather is supposed to get better for tomorrow and it's supposed to be -5C, hopefully the weather people are right and it will be fairly nice out?!

Trivia Tuesday

Today I would just like to mention how important it is to take a multi-vitamin as well as eatting healthy. There are lots of "one-a-day" vitamins out there but I like to take one that is formulated for women, cause it has extra folic acid in it. Here are some facts on why you should take a multi-vitamin.
You may be showing signs of malnutrition if you ...
-
feel tired and weak.
-feel like you never have the energy to clean your home, make meals or even do the dishes.
-have difficulty losing or gaining weight.
-can't easily get to sleep.
-feel stressed and/or nervous.
-feel drowsy during the day.
-sometimes can't concentrate, you're mind feels numb, or you get confused easily.
-have problems with your digestion.
-have constipation and/or hard dry stools.
-have mood swings, or get easily upset.
-don't have patience for anything.
-sometimes feel depressed.
-have overly dry or oily skin.
-sometimes have nausea and/or abdominal pain.
-have annoying eye twitches.
-bruise easily.
-have muscle cramps and/or low back pain.
-sometimes get cracks and sores in the corners of your mouth.
-notice that your nails have become thin and/or brittle.
-are losing your hair.
-have water retention.
-have uncontrollable temper outbursts.
-don't eat a well-balanced nutritious diet EVERY DAY
I think alot of these symptoms could also be from other issues too and I know that I have had alot of these things happen to me, I hate when my eye twitches! Now I'm not a doctor and have no degree so don't get all freaked out if you have alot of these symtoms, I'm just trying to let you know that maybe you aren't getting all the nutrients you need from the food you eat so it is always a good idea to take a daily vitamin as well! And if your like my mom who hates to take pills you can always take a chewable childrens vitamin- anything is beter then nothing!

Back to work

The weekend was good and flew by as usual, Saturday we had the racing banquet to attend and surprisingly the track manager bought our tickets for us!! So the evening was entirely free - can't complain about that! Saturday morning I went shopping for a new outfit and found a nice pair of black dress pants at Reitmans, unfortunately I'm still in the plus size section but I was a 14 plus so that's borderline "normal" clothes! I found a cute top as well but decided not to buy it cause it was a tank top style and I figured it wasn't very good for -20C!! I also picked up a new pair of jeans that were on sale! After shopping I stopped to get my hair cut, which is fairly short now but I like it that way. At the banquet I did get quite a few comments but mostly from people that knew I was on a diet and some people just commented on my hair?? The dinner was amazing and if my stomach was bigger I probably would have went for seconds but I was so full that I couldn't go up again (which is good). I tried to stay mostly on track, it was a buffet meal so I looked it over first and then planned what I really wanted and what I could skip. They also had fairly healthy desserts - chocolate covered strawberries and banana's so I had a couple of them. I was actually quite surprised at the fact that my plate was fairly empty (compared to before I was on a diet) - I could still see sections of my plate and I couldn't even finish what was on it! I was so full but I do think I might have over eaten just a little cause the next day I was hungry all day!? We stayed fairly late after dinner but didn't dance - just socialized and I even won a door prize!! Yeah!

I found this quiz on Lynn's blog and thought it was really cute! You should try it!

You Are 55% Left Brained, 45% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.
Are You Right or Left Brained?

Looks like I'm almost even! he he I like to think that I am both artistic and smart and now this says I am! LOL

Friday fun facts!

Are we really? It could be true, my hubby eats alot of sweets and he is generally a pretty sweet guy? LOL But seriously I don't think this statment is true, there are lots of people out there that eat alot of food that is fattening but yet they still keep their girlish figure! I often wonder, even though they look good on the outside how healthy are they really on the inside?
Today's fun fact is for my mom, she loves this stuff and I'm not really sure why? I don't particularily care for it but as you can see it is really good for you so keep eatting it mom!
Asparagus:
Asparagus may be eaten raw and it is also delicious cooked as a side dish or in soup. It is high in folic acid content and low in calories, providing less than 4 calories for each spear. It is high in potassium and folacin and is a good source of vitamin B6 and thiamin. It also is a very rich source for rutin which strengthens the wall of capillaries. Asparagus also supplies some iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C.

This n' That.....

It has been snowing all day ..... it is amazing at how much has come down I would estimate at least 6 inches in the past 4 hours? The roads are apparently really bad and I'm dreading the drive home!
Today I wanted to share THIS blog that is totally unrelated to weight loss, NS or even getting healthy but it is an excellent blog that has won Bobby Griffin's bestest blog of the day on Nov.20/06. It is a very well written and I think highly interesting blog by a girl only 16 years old! I also wanted to share another blog THAT is also non-health/ diet related but also a fun blog to check out and has also won the bestest blog of the day title for Nov.22/06.
My show that I like to watch wasn't on last night, The Biggest Loser, maybe because the States are celebrating Thanksgiving ?? Apparently it is suppose to be on next week and there is only two more episodes so I'm curious to see who gets the title of The Biggest Loser!
Tonight is bowling night and hopefully I'll be able to get my average! I also need to "pre-bowl" for next week cause I have plans to go to this open house next Thursday night. So tonight I will be bowling 6 games! That should burn a few extra calories!

Weigh-in Wednesday!

I got home last night to find my NS shipment was there, one day early, which was good cause I had absolutely no breakfast left and had to eat the hubbies fiber cereal which wasn't very good! I tore into the box assuming that they had forgotten to put 30lb in the order, but guess what?? She was in there! So I went to put her on the window sill beside her sisters, he he, and realized that it looked like she had lost weight too? 10lb and 20lb were WAY bigger then 30lb, 10lbs tummy was stuffed full and 30lb had a really saggy stomach and wrinkled? I wonder if they do this on purpose? LOL

For week 13 i lost a total of -2lbs which is a grand total of -38.6lbs !! I am truly amazed and sometimes I catch myself thinking that I really haven't lost that much or if someone was to ask me how much I weighed I would say a higher number just cause I'm so used to saying it? I feel like I should be 230lbs not 213!! The lowest weight that I have been in the past 5 years is 212, once I pass this mark I think I will be truly ecstatic! I have also noticed that every month my weight loss has gone down which I suppose is normal, they say that the less you have to loose the harder it is to loose! Here are my numbers:

Start weight = 251.8lbs
week 1-4 = 233.6lbs (-18.2lbs)
week 5-8 = 223.4lbs (-10.2lbs)
week 9-12 = 215.2lbs (-8.2lbs)

My prediction for my 4th month would be -6lbs ! I hope I'm wrong on this number, I would really like to see at least another -8lbs but with Christmas and New Years coming up I think realistically I'll only loose 6lbs for this month?!

NS has FINALLY introduced some of it's "new & improved" foods, which unfortunately I have to wait another month to try. Some of the new foods look and sound really yummy and I am looking forward to trying them, it will be like a Christmas present to myself! AND by my next order I should have earned my 40lb bear! I'm so excited - I love my bears! he he

Trivia Tuesday!

Did you know?? : The potato is a relative of tobacco and the tomato.

Up until the late 18th century, the French believed that potatoes caused leprosy. My husband always says that "potatoes hurt his feet" I just thought he was nuts ..... maybe they really do? LOL

During the Alaskan Klondike gold rush, (1897-1898) potatoes were practically worth their weight in gold. Potatoes were so valued for their vitamin C content that miners traded gold for potatoes.

In 1952, Mr. Potato Head was born, and was also the first toy to be advertised on television.

About 3 1/2 years ago I quit smoking, cold turkey. It was hard and sometimes I still think about it and how easy it would be to start again. I like to compare quiting smoking to loosing weight because I believe they are kinda the same. Both are addiction related and both are habit forming. I always swore that I would never be one of those "reformed smokers" that always complained about it and try to tell everyone how much better I feel now, but it's true and I find myself becoming more disgusted by the smell of smoke that it turns my stomach. I bring this up because last night we put our Christmas tree up, it's not a new tree, it's a tree we got off of the MIL and before that it was my Grandma's (both heavy smokers). The tree is still in really good shape and it's a really nice tree but as we were putting it together I said to my hubby that it smelt "funny" he said "yup, smells like cigarette smoke" and then I recognized the smell and that's all I could smell! YUK ! So I think I need to go buy some pine smelling air fresheners - the little tree ones, to hang on our tree to make it smell better cause right now it is quite disgusting! So for those of you that are smokers I highly recommend quiting, you really do feel better! Kay, I'm done my "get healthy - quit smoking" pitch! he he

It is suppose to get down to -20C as a high on Friday !!! With a low of -30C!! It's not even December yet! I think we have been spoiled the last couple of years and this year is going to be a doozy! Last year we never even saw any snow until Christmas eve! I'm going to have to wear my insulated coveralls to work! he he

Another Monday!

So it is the beginning of another week .... blah! As you probably already know, it was a short weekend for me cause I had to work Sat. but it was actually a pretty good weekend. I had a candle party on Sun morning and then friends and family came over to watch the Grey cup (football) game. BC won of course ! lol I still have to clean my kitchen which is a complete disaster now but maybe by they time I get home my hubby will have it all cleaned up!? Yeah right keep dreaming hey? Sometimes he surprises me though and has the place cleaned and supper ready by the time I get home and the only thing he asks for in return is a back massage! I can handle that! We have a banquet to go to this Sat so I want to go buy some new pants for the event and maybe a new top. Hopefully I'll get some comments from the people there, we haven't seen them for a few months now so hopefully they will see a difference in me?

Weekend bliss ...

Yes it's the weekend and I'm at work! It seems like the only time I have to post here is when I'm at work - shhh don't tell the boss! LOL Yesterday we had to go to the hubby's Grandfathers house to have cake for his 85th birthday! It was quite a house full and really noisy with all the great grandchildren running around. The evening was ok until my MIL asked me if I wanted some Lemon Chicken that she made for supper to take home (even though we weren't even at her house?) and then she says "oh, I guess you can't have that cause it's deep fried?" And the only thing I could think was - who the heck told you I was on a diet?? It shocked me to hear her talk to me about it. She is a really nice MIL but if you want a secret to be told, she is the one you tell the secret too cause in a matter of hours the whole world will know! grrr Now I'm all stressed that she is going to tell the whole family that I am trying to loose weight! I really didn't want the whole family to know, I hate when I'm under a spot light and I feel like everyone is staring at me to see the new me ! I wish my hubby never told her anything but apparently she asked him why I didn't eat any of the sweets when we went over to visit anymore !? *sigh* Oh well, I just hope that she doesn't think it's ok to talk to me about it now, just let me do my thing and I'll be happy!

This weekend is super busy! After work today I have to go grocery shopping for supplies to make dinner on Sunday, stop at the bank, take the dog for a walk, and hopefully get a little house cleaning done. Then Sunday is Grey Cup day and we invited people over to watch the game so I need to make chili and salad for them, finish cleaning my house, take the dog for her daily walk and hopefully hang Christmas lights outside! Since we had to go to Grandpa's last night for cake and Thursday we had bowling I missed two days of taking the dog for her walk so for the next two days I need to go a little further to make up for it!

I just realized that it is 11:00am and I haven't ate my breakfast yet! WTH? Now it is almost lunch time? I never seem quite as hungry on weekends as I do during the week. Or maybe it's because i haven't been using as much energy lately so my body doesn't think it is hungry? So I better go eat my breakfast now even though I hate eating even when I'm not hungry- it goes against all my old diet habits? But look where they got me ! he he

Friday Fun Facts!

Guidance on How to Understand and Use the Nutrition Facts Panel on Food Labels

The Serving Size

The first place to start when you look at the Nutrition Facts panel is the serving size and the number of servings in the package. Serving sizes are provided in familiar units, such as cups or pieces, followed by the metric amount, e.g., the number of grams. Serving sizes are based on the amount of food people typically eat, which makes them realistic and easy to compare to similar foods.

Calories and Calories from Fat

Calories provide a measure of how much energy you get from a serving of this food. The label also tells you how many of the calories in one serving come from fat. In the example, there are 250 calories in a serving of this macaroni and cheese. How many calories from fat are there in ONE serving? Answer: 110 calories, which means almost half come from fat. What if you ate the whole package content? Then, you would consume two servings, or 500 calories, and 220 would come from fat

Limit These Nutrients

The nutrients listed first are the ones Americans generally eat in adequate amounts, or even too much. They are identified in yellow on the chart as Limit these Nutrients. Eating too much fat or too much sodium may increase your risk of certain chronic diseases, like heart disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Eating too many calories is linked to overweight and obesity.

Get Enough of These

Americans often don't get enough dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron in their diets. They are identified in blue on the chart as Get Enough of these Nutrients. Eating enough of these nutrients can improve your health and help reduce the risk of some diseases and conditions. For example, getting enough calcium can reduce the risk of osteoporosis, in which bones become brittle and break as one ages (see calcium example below).

The Percent Daily Value (%DV)

%DVs are based on recommendations for a 2,000 calorie diet. For labeling purposes, FDA set 2,000 calories as the reference amount for calculating %DVs. The %DV shows you the percent (or how much) of the recommended daily amount of a nutrient is in a serving of food. By using the %DV, you can tell if this amount is high or low. You, like most people, may not know how many calories you consume in a day. But you can still use the %DV as a frame of reference, whether or not you eat more or less than 2,000 calories each day.
This general guide tells you that 5%DV or less is low and 20%DV or more is high. This means that 5%DV or less is low

Thursday ......

So I was thinking ..... these Thursday thoughts are turning out to be quite the bore and I find that they just turn into a ramble about silly things that no one seems to care about really ?? So instead of Thursday thoughts I am going to do Thursday This n' That! What does that mean?? you might be asking yourself, well on Thursdays I will be able to post lots of different stuff now like maybe a little bit of THIS or a little bit of THAT Hopefully you enjoy this more then just a bunch of talk! lol

My food order has been shipped out but I'm almost certain that they left my 30lb bear out! The weight of the package is only 30.30lbs and that is exactly the same weight as before when they never sent 10lb! But my fingers are crossed and I guess if it's not in this order I will give them one more shipment before I complain or else I may end up with two of them again (like 10lb)!

We weighed the dog again yesterday!! Hubby said it's Wednesday Weigh in so we need to weigh her too! LOL She is down to 91lbs!! Which is super, last year at the vets she weighed 110lbs and the vet told us she would like to see her at 89lbs! She is a 10 year old Rottweiler and I thought the vet was crazy but it looks like we are right on track! We also weighed the cat, who alot of people say we should paint orange and she would look like Garfield!! lol And guess what ? She is down too! Last year she weighed 13lbs and yesterday she weighed in at 9lbs !! Now I just have to work on the "fatten the husband" evil plan! he he

For the more mature crowd! LOL

So I just got this e-mail from my brother which I thought was super cute but may offend some?? It is a Christmas letter to Santa, you fill in the blanks and it writes the letter for you! You should check it out for a little chuckle!

~~Week 12 Weigh in ~~

Another weigh in day and I am pleased to say that I have lost more pounds! I'm so amazed that I have yet to have gained weight for the week or have no change at all? There are so many profiles I have veiwed that have at least one bad week? I'm just waiting for my "bad" week to show up ! So for this week I lost another -2.2lbs! Which makes for a grand total of -36.6lbs!!! My mini-challenge with Jordanna seems to be going great and I think I will kick her butt! LOL I was thinking this morning that I never ever considered myself to be obese, I just always thought I was "fluffy" or big boned! But the truth is that even though I have lost almost 37lbs I am still considered obese according to my BMI.

I think it is funny how people view themselfs. Even when I was at my highest weight I would look in the mirror and feel somewhat good about myself but if I saw a picture of me it was hard for me to believe that I was that big. I would blame the way I looked in the picture on everything ..... "oh, it's the way I'm sitting" or "it's the outfit" I would never blame the extra slice of pizza of the egg Mcmuffin I had the day before. I'm kinda scared to take a picture of me now cause I'm worried that the picture won't depict what I feel and I will look at the picture and still see the fat girl!? I still have yet to hear any comments from people that dont know I was trying to loose weight? Only the people I have told that I am on a diet have mentioned anything? I find that weird!

~~Trivia Tuesday~~

Did you know??? -The average strawberry has about 200 seeds. Strawberry seeds are all those little bumpy spots on the surface of the berry.

-There is a centuries old custom that if you break a double strawberry in half and share it with someone else, they will fall in love.

-Strawberries were once avoided by pregnant women because it was believed that their children would be born with strawberry birth marks.

-The U.S. is the leading producer of strawberries, and supplies about 20% of the world's strawberries. California grows about 75% of U.S. strawberries.

-Strawberries are low fat, low calorie; high in vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, potassium

Have you ever had one of those mornings where you looked in the mirror and actually felt good about what you saw !? It's been a long time since I have had that feeling and this morning I felt it !! And to make it even better I went to do up my belt and I'm up another notch! So maybe I'll see high numbers on the scale tomorrow! Although I have felt this way before and the scale didn't agree with me!? he he

Took the dog for her daily walk yesterday but this time I thought I would bring my disc man with me. So I start walking, push play and on comes the Beach Boys - California Girls!! Which was quite funny to listen to as I walked in ankle deep snow. But it did seem to make me pick up my pace a bit and I found myself skipping along to the music, I wonder if anyone could tell I was dancing in my insulated coveralls and my Sorel boots? Walking in the snow sure is a workout, I probably add about 10lbs with all my winter gear on! By the time I get home I have to get changed out of my clothes cause I'm so sweaty!

It's a miserable Monday! hehe

Back to work today for some people? Because Remembrance Day fell on a Sat. this year some people took today off too?? Not our company, I'm back at work but not too busy today because most of our customers are not even open. It's looks pretty miserable out there today too, the snow is blowing all over the place and the trees are all frosty. But next week I heard we are suppost to be up to +6C !!

The weekend was pretty good, short as usual but aren't they all? I took my mom with me to that scrapbook open house, its a long drive so the company was nice and she bought supplies so that's always a plus!! Next weekend is Grey Cup weekend so we plan on having a few people over for that and I have a candle party to go to!
I want to start doing some Christmas baking but the challenge will be not to sample any of the product!? So I'm looking for some quick, simple but good cookie recipes.
I'm a little angry with NS right now, they are suppost to be shipping out my order tomorrow but I just checked it and there are a few "low inventory" items AGAIN! Usually they don't really effect me too much and I'll just pick something else that I know I like so they don't pick something for me. But this time they put low inventory on the Granola cereal - this is my favorite cereal and I know that if I don't change it I will end up with Apple granola bars instead. But if I leave it then there is a small chance that I might still get some of them? They are suppost to be coming out with new foods and are slowly discontinuing some of the old food but they aren't bringing in the new foods quick enough so our choices of food is get smaller and smaller. I think for breakfast there is only 10 choices now ? And a couple of them I don't even like, grrr! I think if they are going to be taking food off the list they need to be replacing it at the same time so we still have our choices!? Isn't that what we are paying for??

Friday, November 10, 2006

It's Friday !! :)

Friday Fun facts!

Tomatoes - Each American eats approximately 22 pounds of tomatoes yearly. Over 1/2 of the tomato consumption is in the form of ketchup and tomato sauce.

Did you know that in the United States, Farmers use 1.5 billion pounds of pesticides and that these pesticides end up in about 1/2 the food we eat? Why? Only about 1 percent of food shipments in the US are tested for pesticides..Kind of scary, isn't it? Some Apple Growers use 24 different types of pesticides on apples!

Did you know that cabbage is 91 percent water?

I'm so happy it is Friday today and because tomorrow is Remembrance Day we are closed!! YEAH!! On that note I would like to remind everyone that they should take that moment of silence tomorrow at 11:00!! And think of all the young men and women fighting over seas for our freedom while we sit at home and carry on with life with little to no worries. I am so thankful that no one in my family is over seas and I feel bad for all the mothers, sisters and wifes that have family in the war and sit here worried if their loved ones will even make it home!

I plan on going for a really long walk tonight, I just feel like getting out side and doing something! Hopefully the dog can keep all her booties on this time! lol Don't have too much planned for this weekend. Tomorrow I am going to a Open House for Creative Memories ( a scrapbook supply place) It's like Partylite or Tupperware but for scrapbooking! Hopefully we will be able to clean up all the Halloween stuff on Sunday and I can start bringing out the Christmas decorations. Other then that..... not too much is planned for this weekend. Don't forget to take a couple minutes out of your busy day tomorrow to give a little respect to everyone who is or has faught in the war.

Thursday Thoughts .....

My thoughts for today are going to be on luck! I believe that luck is all determined on the amount of risks you take. It all depends on certain choices you make, if someone thinks they always have bad luck I would tend to think that it was because of bad choices! If you take a second mortgage out on your house just to gamble it away and loose all your savings it's not because you are unlucky, it's because you made a really bad choice! If you become pregnant at a young age it is usually also because of a bad choice. Almost all unlucky situations I can think of boil down to one bad choice. Yesterday the 6/49 lotto was apparently really high - 35 million I think? So everyone at work put a couple bucks in and we bought some tickets, of course we didn't win anything but there is always hope! I rarely buy lotto tickets because I never win but you have to buy in order to win, right? I have always thought that I have been naturally lucky but I think it's because I don't take too many risks, I like to live a simple life knowing what I can expect tomorrow. When I invest money I hate the thought that I am not guaranteed the same amount i put in so I usually invest in low risk investments, which I know will never really get me anywhere but its safe.

Last night I took the dog for her walk and decided I would go to this field that is fairly close to home. I thought it would be a good work out walking through the knee deep snow - which it was but we came home with only three out of the four new booties we bought for her!! grrrr I was so upset about it, she's only worn them like three times and already we lost one?! What good are three booties?? Unless you had a three legged dog! So my hubby takes me back to the field in search of the missing boot! Luckily we found it right away, right at the beginning of the field. I liked hiking through the field it was a good work out but I don't want to loose one of her booties - those things cost alot of money!! Maybe I'll just stick to the paved paths.... less risk of loosing a boot!

Wednesday Weigh in!

Week 11- This week was pretty uneventful, I delayed my next auto shipment in hopes that I would be able to get some "new" and "improved" items on that order. But it seems like we are still waiting for these items to appear on the order sheet, I'm starting to think that it is all a myth just to keep us buying in hopes to try the new food? This week I lost -1.4lbs which is quite good considering last week I had such a big loss. I am almost half way to my goal and so far I have lost 13.7% of the old me!! I now have 3 bears under my belt and I'm working on getting my 40 pounder! Hopefully they remember to put my 30lb bear in my next order!

Mondays ..... blah!

Well another weekend has past and I must say it seemed to go by quick! Maybe it feels that way cause we didn't do a heck of alot? We bought the dog new boots for taking her for walks. I couldn't believe how much doggy booties were!! I could have bought two pairs of shoes for the price of her little fleece boots! ($55) ! We tried them out Friday night and she seemed to like them after she got used to wearing them! It was so funny to watch her try and shake them off! he he We re-arranged our living room to get it ready for the Christmas tree, I'm not allowed to put any Christmas stuff out till after Grey Cup - hubbies rule! Other then that we didn't do much more ?! I was thinking ..... since I have something for every other day of the week- except Mondays, I thought I would like to start the week off with a joke ! So from now on Mondays will be joke day to start the week off!

You Might be a Child of the 80's If...
*You have deep, personal relationships via computers with people you've never met in real life before.
*You know, by heart, the words to any "Weird" Al Yankovic song.
*Three words: "Atari" "IntelliVision" and "Coleco". Sound familiar?
*You remember the days when "safe sex" meant "my parents are gone for the weekend".
*You remember "Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV.
*You remember when music that was labeled "alternative" really was.
*You can't remember when the word "networking" didn't have a computer connotation to it as well.
*You took family trips before the invention of the mini-van. You rode in the back of the station wagon and you faced the cars behind you.
*Kids that work in restaurants and supermarkets are starting to piss you off by calling you "sir" or "ma'am".
*You're starting to believe that maybe 30 isn't so old after all, and it's those people over 40 you have to look out for.
*Your hair, at some point in time in the 80's, became something which can only be described by the phrase "I was experimenting".
*You're starting to believe (now that it wouldn't affect you) that maybe having the kids go to school year-round wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.
*You're starting to get that "why aren't you married yet" shpiel, not just from parents, but now from friends that are married.
*You've recently horrified yourself by groaning as you get out of bed, not because of a hangover, but because it genuinely just hurt to do so.

Friday Fun Facts !! :)

Interesting facts about water
Did you know that depression and fatigue can often be cured by drinking a glass or two of water?

Our bodies consist of 55 – 75% water.

Depression and fatigue are often symptoms of dehydration.

It is healthy to drink water with meals, as it aids the process of digestion.

The best way of getting rid of water retention is to drink a lot of water.

Water allows the body to metabolise fats more efficiently.

Good water intake prevents the skin from sagging.

Water is the main food the body needs.

The thirst reflex only appears when our bodies are already dehydrated.

Children dehydrate more quickly than adults do, and a survey revealed that 65% of schoolchildren drank too little water.

A 2% reduction of water levels in the body can lead to a 20% decrease in mental and physical performance.

Dehydration may induce contractions in pregnant women.

A person can live about a month without food, but only about a week without water.

I think the last point is the most amazing! I personally never really liked water and still I have days were I would rather have something else. I used to believe that the only good thing water was for was "flushing" out your system, but now that I have embraced it a little more I actually drink water more then any other liquid and it's by choice! Not just because I'm trying to loose weight!

I've been watching "The Biggest Loser" every week and I do quite enjoy the show but I wish they would have more weight loss tips on the show. Maybe show us what kinds of foods these people are eating and exactly how often do they go to the gym? Just how hard is it to loose 5-8lbs (on average) every week?? They only recommend that you loose 1-2lbs a week for a "healthy" weight loss!? I honestly don't think that most of them will be able to keep the weight off because they are loosing it so fast that they have no time to develop new habits. Anyway I was wondering how they figure out the % of body weight that each one has lost every week so I went onto their website and someone else had asked the question so I figured out my % of weight loss so far - I think it is quite amazing!!

So you take your present weight and subtract it by the weight you started at, then divided the amount of weight lost by your starting weight and times that by 100. So here is mine:

251.8-218.8=33lbs 33/251.8=0.131 0.131x100=13% WOW!

So I have lost 13% of my body weight so far!! and by the time I get to my goal I would have lost 36.5% of my body weight !! It sounds like such a big number ... to me anyway!?

Thursday Thoughts ....

This week I would like to post a subject that I'm sure will get people talking! It is a subject that nobody likes to bring up around friends because it does cause such a controversy. It is like talking about politics right before an election, nobody ever really admits who they are going to vote for because they don't want to have to justify why they believe in that party. This week I would like to post my thoughts on Spirituality!

Now I would like to start by saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion and once again these are just my thoughts, so sorry if I offend anyone!? I am the type of person that is more mathematical then scientific, a+b=ab. I personally have never had any experience with ghosts or spirits. I'm not really 100% convinced that there is such a thing as life after death. I believe that when your dead you are dead, that's it. I don't believe that I was someone else is a previous life and I don't believe that ghosts haunt you. The biggest reason for my believes is probably because I have never encountered a spirit or ghost.

Now I would like to note that I was involved with a youth group as a teen (IOJD) and it studied the Story of Job which we had to memorize. So I pretty much know all about his trials and tribulations. My whole idea of God is hard for me to describe, I do say a prayer almost everyday (especially if I see a sick or dying animal) and I do find that I talk to Him when I'm in need of answers. But I also believe in the Evolution theory and I'm not too convinced on the whole Adam and Eve story? Being in the youth group we had to go on "church parades" and visit different churches. I have been to a Church of Jesus Christ and Latter day Saints and got my free book of Mormon. I have visited a Sikh temple and ate there little nut mixture and sat on the floor. I've been to a Jewish synagogue and saw how they hide their bible behind this curtain. Along with going to various other Catholic, Anglican and Protestant churches. I find that I am very curious of different religions but yet I don't have one of my own.

Maybe I'm getting a little off topic now, I find myself wondering is spirituality linked to religion?? Do you need to have religion in order to have encounters with spirits? I think out of all the different churches I've visited Judaism interests me the most, can anyone become a Jew or do you have to be born one? I watched an episode of "Wife Swap" last week and one of the moms was Jewish and was explaining a bit about it and I found myself agreeing with alot of her beliefs. I think I am just generally a very curious person and tend to ask alot of questions.

Wednesday Weigh in!

Week 10 !! It seems so unreal that it is only week 10 and I'm down to 218.8lbs!! That is a grand total of -33lbs !! I did way beter on this weigh in than I imagined I would. We have been so busy getting everything ready for our Halloween scare and with the weather being so crummy I haven't been keeping up with my nightly walks or my water intake ?! So to say the least I am quite surprised by my 4lb loss this week! I unfortunately did not make my Halloween challenge but I came alot closer then I thought I would AND I earned my 30lb bear now!! Yippee !! I just love those little bears!

My next challenge is with NS member Jordanna, to see who can come the closest to loosing 18lbs by Christmas. My weigh in for that challenge is on Fridays but I think I will stick with my Wed. weigh in for now till we get closer to the deadline!

NS is suppost to be introducing "new" and "improved" foods this month and I have been checking there website everyday to try and get a sneak peak at the new foods but there is nothing posted yet! I've heard that there is going to be a new chocolate cake, a toaster strudle, fahita, and "salad toppers" are a few of the rumored items to come. I'm so excited to try the new products especially the fahita! yum!
